Since the introduction of the Data Protection Act, patients have the right to apply for access to their health records, provided that a written application is made and the appropriate fee has been paid. However, the practice also has a duty to maintain the confidentiality of patient information.
The patient’s GP will decide if it is in the patient’s interest before releasing any information.
If you wish to have access to your records you must apply in writing to the Practice Manager. If your GP agrees to this, you will be allowed to view your records in the presence of your doctor or The Practice Manager.
